The Hyundai IONIQ 6 isn’t due to hit the streets of Canada until later this spring, but ahead of its debut the electric sedan has tied with the Lucid Air as the most efficient EV in Canada
When the official range numbers for the IONIQ 6 were announced by Hyundai earlier this month (along with pricing), the entry-level Preferred Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Long Range had the highest range of any IONIQ 6 variant at 581km (361 miles).
According to new data published by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) on Friday, that impressive range is because it is the most efficient EV in its class, and is tied for first place overall with the Lucid Air.
In NRCan testing the IONIQ 6 consumed 13.7kWh per 100km in city driving and 16.2kWh/100km in highway driving, for a combined 14.9kWh/100km. When converted to a gasoline liters equivalent per 100km, it works out to just 1.5L/100km (city), 1.9L/100km (highway), and 1.7L/100km (combined).
When looking simply at city driving, the IONIQ 6 is the most efficient EV overall, at 1.5L/100km compared to the Lucid Air at 1.7L/100km. Take the two EVs out on the highway however and the Lucid Air (1.7L/100km) edges out the IONIQ 6 (1.9L/100km).

When it comes to the most efficient Tesla, the entry-level Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) sits very close behind in fifth place with a combined 1.8L/100km.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) hasn’t yet published similar data for the IONIQ 6 in the US, although the figures should be the same south of the border.
