Tesla’s AI to SI rebrand now extends to vehicle computers

Tesla has extended its rebranding of Tesla AI to Tesla Super Intelligence, replacing references to “AI Computer” with “SI Computer” in its owner’s manual for software version 2026.38.3.

According to Tesla’s Model 3 Owner’s Manual, the updated terminology appears in the Operating Climate Controls section, specifically in a note about Pet Mode and Sentry Mode.

The note explains the requirements for accessing the vehicle’s interior cabin camera through the Tesla mobile app, including which onboard computers support the feature.

The updated wording now reads:

“Enabling the interior cabin camera for Pet Mode or Sentry Mode requires the mobile app version 4.15.0 or higher. This feature is not supported in vehicles with SI Computer 2.0 or 2.5. Touch Controls > Software and look at SI Computer to find out which computer your vehicle has.”

Previously, the same note referred to “AI computer 2.0 or 2.5” and instructed owners to look at “AI computer” to identify their vehicle’s hardware.

While the wording has changed in the manual, Tesla has not made the same change to the vehicle’s touchscreen interface, at least on the vehicle we checked.

As shown in our photo of the in-car Software screen, the vehicle still displays “AI Computer: Full Self-Driving Computer 3,” rather than the new SI Computer designation.

The AI Computer terminology itself was introduced as a replacement for Tesla’s older hardware naming convention, which identified the computers using designations such as HW3.

The latest change comes after Tesla renamed its Tesla AI account on X to Tesla Super Intelligence, introducing the SI abbreviation that now appears in the owner’s manual.

All of this follows a September 29 executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, instructing federal agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” in official communications. Trump has since said that anyone using AI instead of SI would be considered an enemy to the country, and on Tuesday said the government would soon ban the use of the terms AI and Artificial Intelligence.
