While most of the automotive world is shutting down as the coronavirus pandemic spreads, one manufacturer is just beginning production of the first all-electric vehicle (EV).
Polestar, part of the Volvo Car Group, began production of the Polestar 2 EV in Luqiao, China earlier this week. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath says the company’s first focus is on the health and safety of their workers.
“We start production now under these challenging circumstances with a strong focus on the health and safety of our people. This is a great achievement and the result of huge efforts from the staff in the factory and the team securing the supply chain.”
Deliveries of the Polestar 2 are hoped to begin in Europe this summer, followed later this year in both China and North America.

It will feature 408 horsepower and 487lb-ft of torque from a 78kWh battery pack giving an estimated 470km (292 miles), based on the often generous WLTP standard. When it arrives on North American shores, expect the EPA rating to be closer to 400km, if not lower.
