Probably the most well-known feature on Tesla vehicles is Autopilot, which allows the car to drive itself in certain conditions, with driver supervision.
One Model 3 owner in Vancouver yesterday tried to blame the feature as a way to get out of a speeding ticket and getting his vehicle impounded.
According to a tweet from the Coquitlam RCMP, the driver was pulled over for driving 113km/h in a 50km/h zone. Upon questioning, he tried to claim it wasn’t actually him driving, but rather Autopilot. A dubious claim, everything else aside, considering Autopilot is limited to 10km/h over the speed limit on non-divided highways, which this stretch of road likely is.
The RCMP officer said that was no excuse, and handed him a $483 ticket for excessive speeding, and immediately impounded his Tesla for seven days.
