Tesla hasn’t released a software update since last year! It helps that we’re only 24 days into the year, but still.
The last major software update was the holiday update, 2019.40.50.1, which was released days before Christmas.
The wait could come to an end soon, as Tesla has released a 2020.4 software update in China. According to the release notes, which are specific to China, there are a number of new game and entertainment updates.
One interesting update includes the addition of air quality and weather information available on the in-car display. The existing temperature display on the screen is now interactive – you can touch it and view local weather information including forecasts, chance of rain, humidity, wind, UV index, and air quality.
The air quality index (AQI) is something particularly important in China where despite making progress over the last few years, major cities often experience periods of very poor air quality.
While a number of these features won’t make it into the US and Canadian software updates, including weather information on the in-car display, especially precipitation radar maps would be a welcomed new feature.

Tesla Theater
You can now watch BiliBili and YouKu in the Tesla Theater app. To launch Tesla Theater, tap the Entertainment icon in the Application Launcher and select the Theater tab while your car is in PARK.
Air Quality Index and Weather
You can now touch the Temperature icon on the top of the touchscreen, Tap on Temperature will bring up extended local weather information includes weekly forecast, Chance of rain, Humanity, Wind forecast, UV index and Air Quality Index (AQI)
Map Improvements
Improved Maps, Faster response time, easier to read even when the map are rotated
Tesla Service Center QR Code
You can now scan the QR on-screen to schedule your next service appointment. Tap “Control->Maintenance->Schedule Service via WeChat” , and scan the QR using WeChat app.
