Tesla’s effort to enter the India market appears to be yielding results, albeit slowly. The Model Y saw a 203 percent jump in deliveries in July.
The American EV maker sold a record 115 Model Ys in July, almost quadrupling its previous month’s total of 38 units. Tesla bested its own highest record of 69 in December 2025.
The increased market traction, however, came after Tesla offered some discounts on the electric SUV. It slashed the Model Y’s price by Rs 9 lakh to 50.89 lakh before taxes, insurance, and other fees.
While sales were relatively modest compared to other markets, July figures rocketed Tesla to the top of the luxury EV segment. Only BMW and Mercedes-Benz sold more high-end EVs in India, with 390 and 174 units sold, respectively. Tesla outsold Volvo Auto India by more than 100 percent.

Altogether, Tesla has sold 578 vehicles in India up to the end of July 2026. This lands the automaker an 8 percent share of all EVs bought in the country since it opened shop in September 2025.
However, things appear to be trending up for Tesla as it has already sold 60 automobiles in the first two weeks of August, meaning more than 600 Teslas now officially ply Indian roads.
Tesla’s footprint in India has been expanding. It now operates showrooms in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with the latter city also hosting a collision center.
Tesla also plans to install more Superchargers in India, after it began delivering the six-seat Model YL in the country.
