Tesla Cuts Model 3 and Model Y Prices in Australia and New Zealand

Tesla is lowering the cost of getting into both the Model 3 and Model Y lineups in Australia and New Zealand. A new entry-level Model 3 brings the sedan’s starting price down by A$9,000/NZ$9,000, while the Model Y Performance is also getting a sizeable price cut as production shifts from Germany to Giga Shanghai.

The new Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive now starts at A$45,900 (C$45,480/US$32,050) before on-road costs in Australia and NZ$54,900 (C$43,930/US$30,960) in New Zealand.

That puts the new entry-level version A$9,000 (C$8,920/US$6,290) below the Model 3 Premium RWD, which remains at A$54,900 (C$54,390 / US$38,340).

In New Zealand, the same NZ$9,000 (C$7,200 / US$5,080) gap separates it from the NZ$63,900 (C$51,130/US$36,030) Premium RWD.

Despite being the cheapest Model 3, the new RWD offers up to 572 km of WLTP range and a 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds. Australian deliveries are expected to begin in mid-to-late October, followed by New Zealand in late November.

As we reported earlier, Tesla is also making several changes across its model year 27 lineup. Premium and Performance Model 3 variants get a larger 16-inch touchscreen, dark headliner and new Zen Grey interior option, while the Performance’s WLTP range increases from 571 km to 600 km.

Power Share, Tesla’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature, is also being added across Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in both countries.

The Model Y Performance is getting a price cut at the same time as production for Australia and New Zealand shifts from Germany to Giga Shanghai. It now costs A$84,900 (C$84,120 /US$59,290), down from A$89,400 (C$88,580/ US$62,430). In New Zealand, it falls to NZ$95,900 (C$76,730/US$54,080) from NZ$100,900 (C$80,730/US$56,900).

The same thing happened for Canada. Tesla switched Canadian Model 3 supply to Giga Shanghai in May, allowing the Premium RWD to launch at C$39,490 while cutting the Performance from C$89,990 to C$74,990. The Australian and New Zealand changes now show Tesla continuing to use its Shanghai factory to reshape pricing and equipment across export markets.
