Tesla updates Model 3 with black headliner and Zen Grey interior

Tesla is finally giving the Model 3 interior a significant makeover, adding a black headliner. The automaker is also retiring the familiar white interior in favour of the newer Zen Grey and updating the car’s main display.

According to updates to Tesla’s online configurator, all Model 3 trims sold in China, Australia and New Zealand now come standard with an all-black headliner, along with the larger HD 16-inch centre touchscreen with higher resolution and animproved refresh rate first added to Model Y earlier this year.

The darker headliner is one of the more noticeable changes. Tesla has traditionally used a light-coloured headliner in the Model 3, even when paired with the standard black interior.

Switching to black gives the cabin a darker look and brings it more in line with recent interior changes made to the Model Y.

Tesla is also now officially retiring its white interior, as the longtime option has been discontinued across every Model 3 trim in the three markets. It has been replaced with Zen Grey, which is noticeably more subdued, using a softer light-grey finish that gives the cabin a less stark appearance. Paired with the new black headliner, it also creates more contrast while giving the Model 3 a darker overall look.

Tesla has already made similar changes to the Model Y. Zen Grey replaced white on Shanghai-built Model Ys in several markets earlier this year, before expanding to Europe in August.

Along with the interior changes, Tesla also announced Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) for the Model 3 in China, Australia, and New Zealand. The feature is expected to expand to other markets.
