Tesla is the luxury vehicle of choice for rideshare passengers

A new survey of ridesharing passengers shows that Tesla is the luxury vehicle of choice, beating out the likes of Mercedes Benz and BMW.

Rideshare advertising platform Octopus Interactive has thousands of interactive screens in Uber and Lyft vehicles across 30 markets Canada and the US. The company used those screens between August and November to ask 1,000 passengers a series of multiple choice questions to learn more about their ridesharing preferences.

When asked which car in the luxury vehicle category they would most likely pick, 33% of respondents selected Tesla as their number one choice. In a distant second was Mercedes Benz (22%), followed by BMW (20%) and Cadillac (10%).

The reason for Tesla being the top choice could be related to the most important brand attributes chosen by passengers. Unsurprisingly price (51%) is the most important attribute, but eco-friendliness (19%) was the next most important.

The positive view could translate into future sales for Tesla. More than one-third (40%) of passengers are planning to buy a new car in the next two years.

Respondents ranged in age from 18-49, with the majority (52%) being male and having an income of between $70K-$150K per year.
