Tesla’s European comeback is showing no signs of slowing down, with April sales from across the region revealing the automaker continuing to recover after a difficult 2025.
New registration figures indicate Tesla posted significant year-over-year gains in countries including France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. In Denmark, registrations more than doubled, rising 102% compared to April 2025. France saw an even larger jump at 112%, while the Netherlands recorded a more modest—but still notable—23% increase. The results build on Tesla’s solid Q1 performance, where deliveries across Europe climbed nearly 45% year-over-year to more than 78,000 units. That rebound followed a challenging 2025, when the company experienced a nearly 27% decline in regional sales.
Driving the rebound in sales has been the Model Y, which surged to become Europe’s best-selling vehicle in March before finishing second overall for the quarter. The Model 3 has also contributed, with improved availability and steady demand helping lift Tesla’s overall performance.
Tesla’s resurgence comes as electric vehicle (EV) adoption across Europe continues to accelerate, with more than 723,000 EVs registered in Q1 2026—a 26% increase from the same period last year. EVs now make up over 20% of all new vehicle sales in the region, supported by government incentives and rising fuel costs.
Those fuel costs have become an increasingly important factor in recent months. Since late February, geopolitical tensions have pushed gas prices higher across Europe, prompting more consumers to consider electric alternatives. That shift has helped drive renewed interest in both new and used EVs, benefiting Tesla alongside its competitors.
Tesla also received a regulatory boost in April. The Dutch vehicle authority, RDW, approved the use of FSD, and has notified the European Commission of its intention to pursue broader EU approval, which could further boost sales.
