Tesla existing inventory discounts return for Model 3 and Model Y

Tesla has started discounting new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles purchased from existing inventory in Canada and the US. These are the first discounts Tesla has applied in several months, and comes with just over a month left in both the quarter in the year to help drive extra sales.

Over the course of the year Tesla has discounted their existing inventory vehicles several times, most recently in August when discounts as high as $5,700 were applied to some Model 3 cars in Canada. Now the discounts have returned, and this time they apply to both the Model 3 and Model Y.

Model 3 Discounts

According to Tesla’s existing inventory page in Canada, Model 3 discounts vary, but can be as high as $4,620, like on this Long Range variant available in Vancouver for $61,370, down from its original price of $65,990. Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) discounts are slightly lower, around $4,100, like this Multi-Coat Red in Vancouver for $54,490.

These prices do not include any applicable federal or provincial level incentives, which when combined could amount to as much as $12,000 if you live in Quebec or $9,000 for BC residents.

In the US Model 3 discounts are as much as $3,000, also not including the US tax incentive of $7,500. Potential buyers in the US may want to jump on these deals as Tesla is warning the credit will be reduced to $3,750 next year.

Model Y Discounts

Tesla is also applying discounts to the Model Y, although not as large, at least in Canada. Based on a review of listings by Drive Tesla, the largest discount we could find was $2,260. While in the US the discounts on the Model Y are around $3,000.

Through the first three quarters of the year Tesla has delivered 1,324,074 cars. That leaves them 475,926 cars off their 1.8 million target, a very achievable figure considering they delivered 435,059 new cars around the world in Q3, and that number should grow as factory upgrades performed over the summer have increased production.
