Starlink Mobile has expanded its satellite-to-mobile service to Brazil through a partnership with Vivo, allowing approximately 50 million customers to stay connected in areas without traditional cellular coverage.
According to an announcement from Starlink on Monday, the service is already live, with seven million phones connected to the satellite network and coverage extending across the entire country.
The service, called Vivo Satélite, automatically connects compatible smartphones to Starlink satellites when terrestrial coverage is unavailable, provided users are outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
Starlink says Brazil is its first nationwide satellite-to-mobile service, with 50 million eligible customers and seven million phones already connected.

In Brazil, customers can use WhatsApp messaging and voice calls, SMS, iMessage, Google Maps and Apple Maps without a conventional cellular signal. However, traditional voice calls, video calls and general web browsing are not currently supported.
Vivo confirmed that consumer customers will receive 12 months of free access, while business customers will receive a three-month trial (via Terra).
The launch comes as SpaceX continues expanding its direct-to-cell technology internationally, including a growing partnership with Rogers in Canada to bring satellite connectivity to more remote areas.
The Brazil launch also follows other international deployments, including Starlink Mobile’s partnership with VEON, which connected 11 million customers in less than a year.
