Royal Air Maroc is bringing Starlink to its fleet of aircraft, making Morocco’s national airline the first in Africa to sign a fleet-wide agreement for SpaceX’s satellite internet service.
As with most other Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi announcements, installation will take place in phases, with the airline aiming to have its entire fleet equipped Wi-Fi by 2027.
Royal Air Maroc reportedly tested Starlink aboard several aircraft before finalizing the agreement earlier this month. The airline currently operates a fleet of nearly 70 aircraft, primarily from Boeing, including the 737, 787 Dreamliner and 767.
Pricing was reportedly one of the biggest sticking points during negotiations. According to a report by el360, the airline initially considered Starlink’s proposal too expensive. The two sides ultimately reached an agreement after working through deployment costs and technical considerations, including potential network interference along routes shared with other Starlink-equipped airlines.
With the agreement, Royal Air Maroc becomes the 48th airline to announce plans to install Starlink, joining the ranks of other major carriers that have already started offering the service, including Air France, Lufthansa Group airlines, Qatar Airways, and many more.
