Wizz Air is joining a growing list of airlines turning to Starlink for in-flight connectivity, announcing plans to equip its fleet with SpaceX’s satellite internet service beginning in 2027.
The move will make the Hungary-based carrier the first major ultra-low-cost airline in Europe to adopt Starlink across its aircraft, extending high-speed internet access to millions of passengers who typically fly on some of the continent’s lowest fares.
Starlink has rapidly become the preferred connectivity solution for airlines around the world thanks to its low-Earth orbit satellite network, which delivers faster speeds and lower latency than traditional satellite internet systems. The technology is already being adopted by a number of full-service carriers, including Air France, Lufthansa, WestJet, British Airways, and many others.
For budget airlines, however, the business case has been less straightforward. Low-cost carriers are known for tightly controlling operating expenses, and some have questioned whether the additional equipment and installation costs justify the investment.
Most famously, Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, has repeatedly dismissed the idea of adopting Starlink, arguing that its customers prioritize low fares over onboard internet access. Wizz Air, however, sees things differently.
“Ultra-low-cost travel has always been about making opportunities accessible to more people,” said Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air.

Our customers shouldn’t have to choose between affordable fares and reliable internet onboard to stay connected to the people, work, and moments that matter most. According to the airline, installations will begin in 2027 and will be rolled out across both existing aircraft and future deliveries. Wizz Air says all next-generation aircraft joining its fleet are expected to feature Starlink.
One key detail remains unclear – whether Wizz Air will offer the service free of charge. Unlike most other airline announcements involving Starlink, the carrier did not reveal its pricing plans.
