As Canadians continue to wait for cheaper EVs from China, Nissan could be next to export Chinese-made EVs to the country.
The Japanese auto giant is considering entering the Canadian market with low-cost EVs manufactured by its Chinese joint-venture partner, Dongfeng Motor Group.
The company has already targeted Brazil and Mexico for these joint-venture exports to China. With the plan to ramp up to 100,000 units shortly, and another 300,000 units bound for Latin America later in the roadmap.
Nissan has confirmed that the first two joint-venture models it will export to the Americas are the N7 electric sedan and the Frontier Pro pickup truck.
However, what has come as a surprise is that, per Nissan’s Head of America Christian Meunier, the Japanese automaker may also be eyeing Canada as its next export market.
The details are not super clear about what they have planned, but the Canadian EV market could be a good one for the automaker to enter. Especially if they are offering an affordable pickup.
Nissan did not provide timelines or details on what models, if any, would be coming to Canada.
