While many automakers are retreating from their electric vehicle (EV) strategy, Mercedes-Benz is forging head, pulling the wraps off an all-new electric version of one of its most important models, the popular C-Class, for the first time.
Set to arrive in 2027, the electric C-Class represents a ground-up redesign rather than a simple conversion of the existing gas-powered sedan. Built on a dedicated EV platform, the new model introduces a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile, highlighted by a fastback-style silhouette that distinguishes it from its internal combustion counterpart.
At launch, the lineup will be led by the C 400 4MATIC, an all-wheel drive variant equipped with dual electric motors producing up to 360 kW (approximately 482 horsepower). Performance figures suggest the luxury sedan won’t lack punch, with a 0–100 km/h sprint in around 4.0 seconds.

Beyond performance, Mercedes-Benz is placing a strong emphasis on efficiency and range—two critical factors for EV buyers. The electric C-Class is equipped with a 94 kWh battery pack and an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling rapid charging speeds of up to 330 kW. Under ideal conditions, that translates to approximately 325 km of added range in just 10 minutes.
As for total driving distance, Mercedes is targeting up to 762 km of range on the WLTP cycle, positioning the electric C-Class among the longest-range vehicles in its segment. Rear-wheel-drive variants expected to follow could push that figure even higher, potentially approaching 800 km.
On the more conservative EPA cycle, the range would likely come in closer to 620–650 km.
The engineering approach goes beyond just battery size. The dual-motor system includes a front motor that can disengage under light loads to improve efficiency, while the rear motor is paired with a two-speed transmission designed to balance acceleration and highway cruising.
Inside, the electric C-Class continues Mercedes’ push toward high-tech cabins. A large, optional 39.1-inch Hyperscreen stretches across the dashboard, integrating the instrument cluster, infotainment, and passenger display into a single unit. The system runs on the company’s latest software platform and incorporates multiple AI systems, including ChatGPT-based functionality, to enhance voice controls and in-car services.

Other interior highlights include a panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity, ambient lighting features that sync with audio, and an available vegan-certified cabin using sustainable materials.
In terms of practicality, the electric sedan offers a slightly longer wheelbase than its gas-powered counterpart, along with both a traditional trunk and a front trunk (frunk) for additional storage.

While Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced pricing or exact market launch timing beyond a 2027 debut window, the electric C-Class is expected to play a key role in the automaker’s EV lineup. As one of its best-selling nameplates globally, bringing the C-Class into the electric era could significantly impact adoption in the luxury midsize segment.
