Lucid launches cheaper Air Pure sedan

Lucid sells electric cars in the premium category. However, to boost sales and revive demand, the EV startup has launched the less expensive Air Pure, starting at $77,400.

Tesla has made EVs harder to sell for its competitors by cutting the prices of its EVs. Lucid followed suit by reducing its own prices by up to $12,000. However, that move seems insufficient as July’s registration data showed the company struggled with sales at the start of H2 2023. Lucid is fighting for its own share of the market by releasing a cheaper Air Pure.

Lucid’s latest offering, a rear-wheel EV with a base price of $77,400, is slightly more expensive than its main competitor, the Tesla Model S, which starts at $75,000. The Air Pure, however, boasts a longer driving range of 410 miles per charge, 5 miles more than the Model S, which is all-wheel-drive.

The most expensive Air is the Sapphire, which sells just $1,000 shy of a quarter of a million dollars.

The new Air Pure is available for order immediately.

Last month, Lucid opened its overseas factory in Saudi Arabia, the home of its largest shareholder, the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
