German Tesla subsidies decision expected by the end of 2021

According to a German economy ministry spokesperson, a decision on any subsidies for Tesla will arrive by the end of 2021.

Tesla is currently waiting for how much state aid they will receive for their planned battery cell factory near Berlin.

Along with BMW and others, Tesla already received state aid from the European Union to help reduce import costs from China. The EU plan includes 2.9 billion euros spread across more than 40 companies part of the European Battery Innovation project.

Tesla plans to invest 5 billion euros in their new battery factory outside of Berlin. The Gruienheide factory will complement Giga Berlin who is about to finish construction.

As reported by the Tagesspiegel newspaper, Tesla expects to receive at least 1.14 billion euros from the German government.

Previous to the spokesperson speaking out, the carmaker Opel received a 437 million euros grant from the German government. This investment is in the companies battery cell factory in Kaiserslautern.

Neither Tesla nor the German government confirmed the rumours and noted that talks are still ongoing.
