Tesla has announced a change in job titles for two of its top employees. According to a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), former CEO Elon Musk is now the Technoking of Tesla.
Along with the new title for Musk, CFO Zach Kirkhorn’s position was also renamed to Master of Coin. The new titles do not change their responsibilities within the company.
“Effective as of March 15, 2021, the titles of Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn have changed to Technoking of Tesla and Master of Coin, respectively. Elon and Zach will also maintain their respective positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer,” the filing said.
Musk’s new title is likely linked to his recent interest in techno music production. In 2020 Musk released a single called “Don’t Doubt ur Vibe”, announcing on Twitter he wrote the lyrics and performed the vocals.

Kirkhorn’s new title comes after Musk’s interest in cryptocurrency’s over the last several months. That interest culminated in the purchase of $1.5 billion in Bitcoin in January, a decision that has paid off for Tesla. While it didn’t announce the exact price of Bitcoin at the time of the purchase, it has nearly doubled since January, translating into a sizeable profit (on paper).
Elon Musk had been CEO of Tesla since 2008. Kirkhorn joined Tesla in 2013 before coming CFO in March 2019.
