Tesla has started shipping the long-awaited software needed to integrate Cybertruck with Powerwall, allowing the two products to work together to provide significantly more backup power during a grid outage.
However, this initial release is only compatible with Powerwall 3. Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill confirmed on Wednesday that the firmware is going out to customers after facing lengthy delays.
The integration essentially turns the Cybertruck and Powerwall 3 into a larger home energy system, with Tesla’s vehicle and energy teams working together to manage power through the same Wall Connector normally used to charge the truck.
Tesla highlighted the potential backup capability through its Cybertruck account, adding that support for owners with Powerwall 2 is coming later this year.

Cybertruck’s Powershare system can provide up to 11.5 kW of continuous power to a home. Tesla estimates the truck can provide more than three days of backup based on typical household consumption of around 30 kWh per day.
The rollout has been a long time coming. Tesla initially expected to enable Powershare compatibility with Powerwall much earlier, before telling owners in December 2025 that development had pushed the release to mid-2026.
Tesla’s website and installation documentation have not yet fully caught up with the rollout, with some pages still describing Powerwall compatibility as “coming soon.”
Tesla’s Canadian Powershare page similarly continues to describe Powerwall compatibility as coming through a future over-the-air (OTA) update.
