Audi has recalled more than 9,000 Q4 e-tron electric SUVs in the United States over a potential battery fire risk, joining sister company Volkswagen who also recently issued a massive battery-related recall involving Volkswagen’s ID.4.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects 9,048 vehicles from the 2024 and 2025 model years.

The recall includes 7,040 Q4 e-tron SUVs manufactured between December 4, 2023 and April 24, 2025, along with 2,008 Q4 Sportback e-tron vehicles.

Transport Canada has yet to issue a similar recall.

Audi says certain high-voltage batteries may not meet the required quality standards, potentially allowing thermal propagation when the battery is charged above 80%.

According to the filing, the exact cause remains under investigation, although preliminary findings point to possible manufacturing deviations in the high-voltage batteries. The filing lists SK Battery Manufacturing Kft. in Hungary as the supplier of the high-voltage battery module.

The automaker also warned that a technical defect may not be immediately detectable, meaning affected vehicles could develop a battery issue without warning.

Audi began investigating after its Product Safety Committee was informed of battery thermal events involving certain Volkswagen Group vehicles on September 21, 2026.

The committee subsequently approved a voluntary recall on October 14, out of an abundance of caution. Audi says it is unaware of any related claims, crashes, fires, injuries or deaths.

While a permanent repair is still being developed, NHTSA advises affected owners to limit charging to 80% until their vehicles have been repaired.

While this is the same temporary fix as VW’s, Audi’s remedy is narrower: only vehicles whose battery data is missing or shows a problem get the 80% charging cap and a diagnostic check at an Audi dealer, while the rest need no interim steps.
