The RCMP has completed its search of Quebec electric bus maker Lion Electric‘s headquarters in Saint-Jérôme, as part of an ongoing investigation into potential investment fraud involving the company’s former operations.

The investigation is being led by the RCMP’s Integrated Market Enforcement Team (IMET), which began looking into the company in February 2025 following complaints from more than 100 investors (via CBC News).

The search began Wednesday morning, when a convoy of approximately 30 vehicles arrived at Lion Electric’s headquarters around 10 a.m., bringing roughly 75 officers to the facility.

Officers were executing a search warrant to collect evidence, including computer servers, as investigators work to determine whether any criminal offences were committed.

The operation continued through Sunday, when officers completed their search of the property (via Journal de Montréal).

“The search ended yesterday [Sunday]. We do not share information on items seized, as it is evidence,” said RCMP Cpl. Martina Pillarova, in a translated statement.

The investigation centers around Lion Electric’s operations before the company was acquired by a group of Quebec investors in May 2025, rather than the business under its current ownership.

Lion Electric’s current management has also sought to distance itself from the investigation, saying the RCMP’s activities “do not affect the company we operate today.”

The Quebec-based manufacturer had previously faced financial difficulties, entering creditor protection in December 2024 before being sold to its new owners several months later.

Before those difficulties, Lion Electric had been expanding its electric vehicle business, including a conditional order for 1,000 electric school buses from Student Transportation of Canada in 2021.

The company also announced plans for a manufacturing facility in Illinois that year, while Prince Edward Island announced an order for 35 electric school buses in 2022.
