Electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining popularity in the United States. The latest data shows Americans registered 3 times as many new EVs in the first quarter of 2021 when compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Leading the pack for EVs was Tesla with combined registrations across their vehicle lineup totaling 91,933, or more than 71% of all new EVs registered from January to April 2021.
Even though the Model Y has only been available for just over a year, it was Tesla’s leader according to data from Kelley Blue Book.
In the 3 month period the Model Y was registered 53,102 times, followed by the Model 3 with 35,468 registrations. Despite no production of the Model X/S in the first three months of 2021, they each recorded 1,730 and 1,633 registrations respectively.

Showing their continued dominance over other EVs available on the market, Tesla’s 91,933 registrations dwarfed the competition which accumulated 34,253 registrations combined.
The most popular EV behind the Model Y and Model 3 was the Chevy Bolt EV with 13,611 registrations.
Unsurprisingly the state with the most EV registrations was California, with the Golden State taking 38% of new EV registrations. Florida came in a distant second with 7.2%, followed by Texas at 5.9%.
