Tesla May Start Semi Production at Giga Berlin Later This Year

Tesla is committed to its Giga Berlin expansion plan. According to Elon Musk, the factory may start producing Tesla Semi, possibly before the end of 2024, and it would make a lot of sense to do so in Europe.

On Wednesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited Germany. Although he only spent a few hours there, he gave a speech to Giga Berlin employees and also held several meetings with key politicians in the region. The visit took place against the backdrop of the recent arson of a high-voltage transmission line pole that powered the factory, the industrial zone in which it is located, and several other settlements nearby.

During a speech to Giga Berlin employees, Musk was asked about Tesla Semi. He said it makes a lot of sense for the company to produce Semi in Europe, specifically at Giga Berlin. Today, this is the manufacturer’s only factory in Europe, and specific plans for the construction of a new one have not yet been announced.

According to industry experts, the arrival of an electric semi truck in the European market would be highly welcome. The market needs a variety of options, and a new entrant could make a significant difference. In addition, with ever-increasing regulatory requirements, as well as companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint, the all-electric Semi would be highly sought after in Europe.

Tesla Semi was first introduced in 2017. Currently, the company has a pilot production line in Nevada, and is expanding to Giga Nevada, where it will begin mass production of Semi. According to the current plan, mass production should begin at the end of 2024. The first deliveries were made in 2022, and the only client who received them is Pepsi Co. Tesla’s Semi has repeatedly proven its reliability and efficiency, including in independent tests. It is expected that after the start of mass production, Semi will be delivered to other order holders.
