Starlink is soon going to be available in another Latin American country as the satellite internet service has been approved to operate in Costa Rica.
Per the President of the Board of Directors of the Superinterndencia de Telecommunications, Federico Chacon, Starlink started the regulatory process in the country in October 2022. While it took some time, Chacon confirmed that:
“Sutel issued the technical opinion through resolution RCS-093-2023 on April 27 with the recommendation to the Executive Branch to grant the concession.” (via La Nacion)
Customers in Costa Rica will be able to enjoy 50 to 500 Mbps service in the country for around $110 per month. At the same time, the one-time set-up fee, which includes the hardware, will run customers around $600.
Due to the nature of Costa Rica’s population, Starlink could end up being a very popular choice. Outside of major city centers, Costa Rican internet is not great. So, residents and imports alike, especially from the United States, may jump at the opportunity to get stronger and faster internet services to their homes.
Per the Starlink Map, Guatemala, Bahamas, and Costa Rica will all go live in Q3, but Starlink did not have an exact date for the service to go live.
