A Better Routeplanner updates mobile app to include ‘Alternatives’

The folks at A Better Routeplanner (ABRP) recently updated their mobile app to include one of the more useful features from the original ABRP web version.

Known as “Alternatives”, this new feature in the latest version for the mobile app (version 3.9.14) allows you to select up to five alternatives for the next scheduled charging stop.

The feature, which can be accessed while driving, is a perfect solution for those times when you either change your mind during a drive and want to charge either earlier or later. It is also an easy way to see how using a different charger than the one specified in the original routing will affect your total travel time.

In the example above, when travelling from Victoria to Kelowna, the quickest option skips the Supercharger in Hope, BC. The slowest option, adding in an extra charging stop, tacks on an extra 16 minutes to the journey.

A Better Routeplanner is a great alternative to the in-car navigation when planning a long distance road trip. Behind the scenes, you can configure your starting state of charge (SOC), enter in your expected consumption and reference speed(e.g., 160Wh/km @ 110km/h), road and weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow, wind speed, temperature), and also add on any extra weight for passengers and cargo, all which can impact your efficiency and therefore range.

You can download ABRP on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
