Polestar 5 4-door GT debuts to the public this weekend, targeted to have 871hp and 663lb-ft of torque

The newest development prototype from Polestar, the Polestar 5 4-door GT, will be on display to the public for the first time this weekend.

The vehicle will debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex in the United Kingdom.

The vehicle will run up the iconic Goodwood hill twice daily as part of the “First Glance” group.

According to new details released today by the Swedish automaker, the Polestar 5 includes a new rear electric motor built on an 800-volt architecture.

Combined with the front-engine, the Polestar 5 will deliver 884 hp and 663 lb-ft. At least, say, this vehicle packs a punch that will rival other performance EVs.

Head of Polestar UK Research and Development, Pete Allen, had this to say on the vehicle:

Polestar 5 is shaping up to be a superb 4-door GT and a true Polestar at heart. The platform combines low-volume performance car attributes with modern technological advances to bring light-weight, high-rigidity sports car chassis technology into mass production.

In addition, Polestar’s Chief Technical Officer, Jorg Brandscheid had this to say:

The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver’s cars.

Polestar is planning to launch the vehicle in 2024, and the company will launch the first of three new EVs over the next three years. The other two cars are the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUV.
