Tesla registrations in Germany rise 158% in September as overall registrations plunge 26%

In a sign of changing tides in the German automotive market, electric vehicle (EV) registrations in the country rose 59% in September, while the overall vehicle registrations plunged 26%.

That percentage would have been even worse were it not for Tesla in particular, which saw its registrations skyrocket 158%.

During the 30-day period a total of 7,903 Tesla vehicles were registered in Germany. The large increase in sales in thanks in part to the introduction of the Model Y, which began European sales in late August.

That was enough for Tesla to outsell Toyota (7,394), a company whose CEO said Tesla has yet to create a real business. The data comes from the KBA motor authority.

Some of the automakers that saw the biggest decline in sales in Germany in September were Honda (-30%), Ford (-29.5%) and Mercedes Benz (-19.9%).

These figures are surely to rise in the coming months as Tesla puts the finishing touches on Giga Berlin. The massive factory is set to host locals this weekend for Giga Fest, and based on the latest information should receive final approval next month.
