Tesla owners in B.C. who end up in a fender bender may soon have a new place to get their cars fixed, straight from the automaker itself.
Tesla has announced it plans to build its own collision repair centre in Port Coquitlam, the same city where it opened a 60,000-square-foot Service and Delivery Center last year.
In a post on LinkedIn, Rishi Bakshi, Tesla’s new BC Collision Manager, said he is leading the launch of what he called “Western Canada’s very first factory-owned and operated Tesla Collision Center.”
According to Bakshi’s LinkedIn profile, he previously spent more than a decade at Boyd Autobody & Glass as its regional development and area manager for B.C., before working as a regional manager for Speedy Glass in B.C.
He added that the company is now putting together the facility’s founding team.
Who Tesla is hiring
According to Bakshi, Tesla is recruiting in Port Coquitlam for collision body technicians at every level from apprentice to journeyperson, along with paint preppers and detailers.
He pointed applicants to open listings on Tesla’s Career’s website and said new hires would get repair training directly from the manufacturer, including work on aluminum and structural components.
Listings include roles for a Collision Technician and an Apprentice Collision Technician.
Why it matters
A factory-run centre would let Tesla handle that work in-house, in a province with one of the highest EV adoption rates in North America.
Some B.C. body shops, such as AutoMind in Coquitlam, already belong to Tesla’s approved collision centre program, and get Tesla training and tooling but are independently owned. On its collision support page, Tesla describes its own collision centres as facilities that handle everything from cosmetic fixes to full structural repairs.
Port Coquitlam would be Tesla’s third factory-owned collision centre in Canada. The first, a dedicated Tesla Collision Center in Oakville, Ontario, opened in 2022, while a second opened in Montreal in 2023.
Tesla hasn’t announced when the new Collision Centre will open or where in Port Coquitlam it will be located.
