Lucid Gravity owners will have to wait longer to ditch their key fobs, with the automaker pushing the SUV’s long-awaited Phone as a Key feature into the first quarter of 2027.
The new timeline was shared by a Lucid team member on the Lucid Owners forum on Friday, two days after the company’s previous Q3 target passed.
“We know many Lucid Gravity owners have been waiting for Phone as a Key. The feature is now targeted for release in Q1 2027, allowing us the time needed to ensure it delivers the reliability and experience our customers expect. We apologize for the delay and appreciate our customer’s continued patience.”
This marks the second delay for the feature. Lucid Chief Communications Officer Nick Twork said in May that “Mobile Key is expected in Q3.” That quarter ended Wednesday, September 30. Before that, Lucid’s UX 3.5 release notes said the feature was being developed for deployment later in 2026, while a digital key was also included on the company’s 2026 software roadmap presented at its March Investor Day.
The latest target gives Lucid until the end of March 2027, two quarters later than its previous Q3 window.
The delay is particularly frustrating because Gravity owners have dealt with key fob reliability issues since deliveries began in late December 2024. Owners have reported “Key Not Detected” warnings, and Lucid has released at least eight software and firmware updates aimed at improving key fob performance.
Gravity owners aren’t completely dependent on the fob. Lucid added Remote Start to its mobile app in March, allowing the vehicle to be unlocked and driven without a physical key. However, owners must open the app and activate the feature each time, unlike a proximity-based phone key. The Lucid Air already offers Mobile Key.
There could eventually be another option. Apple named Lucid as a future Apple Wallet car key partner in 2025, and references to Lucid appeared in iOS 27 beta code in July. Neither Apple nor Lucid has provided a launch date.
