Chevrolet May Cut 2027 Bolt Production Even Lower than Expected

If you’re interested in the limited-production Chevrolet Bolt, you may need to rush to secure your vehicle.

According to United Auto Workers (UAW) documents released to the media, Chevrolet appears to be significantly lowering its target production numbers for their entry-level EV. When it was originally announced, Chevrolet confirmed that the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt would be a limited production run of 150,000 vehicles from its Fairfax plant.

However, these new documents show the target is less than a quarter of that, with only 35,000 2027 Bolts expected to come off the production line.

Chevy spokespeople did not confirm the report, but noted they do not publicly verify target numbers, nor did they appear to reconfirm the original 150,000 production number.

Now, a North American major automaker not following through on a limited-run production forecast is nothing new. Ford did it back in the mid-2000s with the Thunderbird, while other launches have exceeded production targets like the Ford GT (Second Edition) and Porsche 911 R and GT3.

The specific reason for potentially limiting an already limited run will become clear over the next few months. Many in the auto industry point to potentially tapering demand in the affordable EV space, while others point to the Trump Administration’s changes to fuel-economy targets as the reason for the drop.

Whatever the reason, if you want a 2027 Bolt, you’ll need to move fast and consider pre-ordering at your local Chevrolet dealership.
