Tesla 2020.28.5 software update enables new Supercharging rates on Model S and Model X and more [Update]

Tesla quietly updated their website recently to indicate the Model S and Model X could now charge at a peak rate of 250kW, matching the premium version of the Model 3 and the Model Y.

Elon Musk soon clarified on Twitter that the improvement was due to the a manufacturing change that increased the thickness of the wires, allowing them to achieve higher charging rates.

Now Tesla has released a new software update that allows those vehicles with the new design to charge at peak 250kW rates at their V3 Superchargers.

At the time of the announcement by Musk, it wasn’t clear when exactly the change occurred, but thanks to this software update and Tesla hacker @greentheonly, we now know it is for Model S and Model X vehicles with -H and -G 100kW battery packs that were manufactured from June onwards.

The update also includes the recent Passenger Face Vent improvement, that disables the passenger vent if no passenger is detected in the seat.

Tesla Arcade has also been removed from some vehicles based on their location, but it is not known yet which regions are affected.

Update: It looks like only Tesla owners in Hong Kong have had the Tesla Arcade removed.

Update #2: This 2020.28.5 update also includes the ability to go 5mph (10km/h) over the speed limied when Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control (TLSSC) is enabled.

Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about this latest software update…
