Tesla has deployed its first software update of 2025, version 2025.2, and it includes several new features, including one for owners of Android mobile devices that will bring them closer to parity with their iPhone counterparts.
Expanded Third-Party Fast Charger Preconditioning
This 2025.2 software update expands Tesla’s Third-Party Fast Charger Preconditioning feature. Owners can now benefit from automatic battery preconditioning when navigating to any fast charger, ensuring the battery reaches the optimal temperature for faster charging speeds.
This improvement is particularly beneficial for drivers who frequently use non-Tesla fast chargers, as it reduces charging times and enhances overall efficiency. Simply setting a fast charger as a destination in the vehicle’s navigation system will activate the preconditioning process as needed.
Rear Cross-Traffic Chime for Added Safety
Tesla first introduced a cross-traffic alert in its 2024 Holiday Update. However the integration lacked an audible chime, with the rear-camera display only highlighting in red to alert the driver of a possible collision. Now 2025.2 adds an extra layer of awareness when reversing with a directional warning sound when an object, such as a vehicle or pedestrian, is detected crossing behind the car.
Owners can enable or disable the feature by navigating to Controls > Safety > Rear Cross-Traffic Chime in their vehicle’s touchscreen settings.
Hands-Free Trunk or Frunk Opening Now Available for Android Users
The hands-free trunk is another feature that was first introduced last year, but it was exclusive to iPhone users. With 2025.2, Hands-Free Trunk or Frunk Opening is now available for Android devices. Owners of newer Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support can now open their trunk or frunk without using their hands, a welcome addition for those carrying groceries, luggage, or other items.
To use this feature, the driver simply needs to stand near the trunk or frunk with their Phone Key unobstructed. After hearing a chime, the frunk or trunk will open automatically.
To enable this feature, go to Controls > Locks > Hands-Free Frunk or Trunk on the vehicle’s touchscreen. On supported Android devices, users should enable Nearby or UWB Interactions in their phone’s settings or navigate to Phone Key > Upgrade within the Tesla app.
Minor Improvements
This update also enhances the new weather information by including the display of weather for both the final destination and waypoints in the turn-by-turn route list. Additionally, The Battle of Polytopia receives The Forgotten Aquarion Skin, along with new language support and balance changes. Minor fixes and performance enhancements have been applied, along with important security improvements to ensure a more stable and secure experience.
