Tesla 2021.40.5 Software Update & Release Notes – Waypoints have arrived

Tesla has started deploying a new software update, 2021.40.5, and finally added the highly anticipated waypoints feature. Although Tesla went with a different name – ‘Add Stop’.

According to the release notes, you can now easily add a stop on your navigation route by tapping a new ‘+’ icon on the navigation search button.

The feature has been been promised to be coming since September 2020, when Elon Musk reluctantly agreed to add it after being persuaded by fellow Canadian and Tesla enthusiast Trev Page (@Model3Owners).

Apparently Musk put his developers to work immediately, as evidence of the feature was found just a few months later by hacker @greentheonly.

The update also adds Sentry Mode Live Camera Access, Cold Weather Improvements, TIDAL, Rear Display Improvements, and the recent Traffic-Aware Cruise Control Chime for those vehicles that didn’t already have these features.

There have been no reports of 2021.40.5 in Canada, so we don’t know yet if we will finally get access to Sentry Mode Live with this update.
