Tesla contacting owners who earned referral discount on Founder Series Roadster

After contacting owners who had earned a free Founder Series Tesla Roadster last week, Tesla is doing the same for those who earned a discount on the electric supercar.

In 2017 secret levels were introduced to the popular Tesla referral program, giving owners the chance to earn a 2% discount on a Founder’s Series Roadster for each new purchase made with their referral code.

Get multiple referrals, and the discounts could be stackable all the way up to earning a Roadster for “free”, or even two.

If you weren’t one of the lucky few who earned enough referrals for a 100% discount, Tesla has started sending emails to those who earned at least a 2% discount.

In the email, Tesla tells you exactly what percentage discount you have earned, and asks you to claim the discount by January 1, 2021.

According to the terms, accepting the discount does not lock you in to purchasing the Roadster. Instead, the car will simply be added to your Tesla account, and you will have one year from the date Roadster production begins to take advantage of the discount.

When will production begin?

When the Roadster was unveiled in 2017, CEO Elon Musk said it would arrive in 2020. Several delays later and the latest information from Musk during an interview with Joe Rogan earlier this year is that the Roadster could arrive late next year, or into 2022 as the company focuses on other priorities.

With Tesla’s recent move to contact referral winners, we’re hoping it is coming sooner than anticipated.
