Volkswagen is launching its first fully electric sedan, the ID. AERO.
The ID. AERO will be a powerful EV that will rival the Model 3 in terms of range and power and is built on Volkswagen’s electric modular electric drive matrix (MEB) architecture, which can be adapted for vehicles of different shapes and sizes.
The vehicle is almost five metres long and has been designed with aerodynamics in mind. In fact, with its design, the ID. AERO has a 0.23 drag coefficient.
As per Ralf Brandstatter, Chief Executive Officer of Volkswagen Passenger Cars:
With the ID. AERO show car, we are revealing a preview of the next member of the ID. family. A car with an emotional and, at the same time, extremely aerodynamic design, a range of over 600 kilometres, an extraordinary amount of space and a premium interior. With our ACCELERATE strategy, we are intensively driving forward the electrification of our model range. Following the ID.4, this model will be our next global car for Europe, China and the US.
VW confirmed with Drive Tesla that the vehicle will also come to Canada in 2024. The automaker did not confirm the pricing of the ID.AERO.
However, the production version of the electric sedan will roll off the assembly line in VW’s Emden plant starting in 2023.
VW did not confirm where the North American or Asian versions will be produced.
