Virgin Atlantic bringing Starlink Wi-Fi to skies sooner than expected

Virgin Atlantic is fast-tracking its plans to bring high-speed in-flight internet to passengers, announcing that Starlink Wi-Fi will arrive sooner than originally expected. The UK-based airline had initially targeted a rollout later this year, but now says the first connected aircraft will take to the skies as early as next month.

The debut will take place aboard one of Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with the first Starlink-enabled flight scheduled to operate between London Heathrow Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The revised rollout plan will begin with the A350 fleet, which Virgin Atlantic expects to fully equip by early summer. From there, installations will expand to Boeing 787 aircraft in the second half of 2026, with the airline aiming to have roughly two-thirds of its fleet connected by the end of the year.

The remaining Airbus A330neo aircraft are expected to receive the upgrade through 2027, ultimately achieving full fleet-wide coverage.

Virgin Atlantic first announced its partnership with Starlink in July 2025, becoming the first UK airline to commit to offering the satellite-based internet service across its entire fleet at no cost to Flying Club members. At the time, installations were expected to begin in Q3 2026, but the company has now pulled that timeline forward thanks in part to Starlink’s relatively quick installation process compared to traditional in-flight connectivity systems.

Juha Jaervinen, Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, highlighted the importance of the accelerated rollout, stating the airline is focused on delivering a “brilliantly connected experience” across its network.

“Together with Starlink, we’re setting a new standard for connectivity in the skies, with fast, free, high-speed WiFi available from the moment customers step onboard,” he said. “It’s all part of creating a truly connected, ‘home away from home’ experience.”
