Tesla may be preparing to expand its Canadian lineup, with a new hint coming not from an official announcement, but from a subtle update to its online store.
A new “Model YL” section has appeared on Tesla’s Canadian online shop Thursday morning. Clicking on the link doesn’t take you to a 404 “page could not be found” error message, but rather to the actual Model YL Shop, although no products are currently listed. That suggests this isn’t a random placeholder, but rather a coordinated update tied to a potentially imminent launch of the six-seat Model YL. (h/t: @ImSnog)

Adding to the possibility of a Canadian launch, the same category is absent from the U.S. version of the site, and attempting load the URL directly takes you to a 404 page. Its absence from the U.S. site is important because currently the Model YL is only built at Giga Shanghai, and as we all know, recent policy adjustments have reduced tariffs and opened the door for automakers to import EVs from China again.
The Model YL Shop is available in other markets where the vehicle is currently available and features products specifically for the different configuration like floor mats, storage bins, sun shades, an air mattress, and more.
With the Model YL now showing up in Tesla’s Canadian shop, an official announcement could be just hours away. The company often rolls out lineup and pricing updates on Thursday evenings, meaning we may not have to wait long for confirmation.
If that happens, there is also a strong possibility Tesla could introduce the cheaper Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model 3 variant in Canada at the same time. Since there is already a Model 3 category on the Tesla Shop, no additional clues are available there, but the policy changes to allow Chinese-made EVs, and that the Model 3 configurator has been missing for months, makes us think it will happen at same time. Formerly known as the Model 3 Standard, import tariffs from the U.S. have made it impractical for Tesla to bring their new base model from the Fremont factory. Tesla imports the Model Y RWD from Giga Berlin to sidestep those tariffs.
Unlike the standard Model Y, the Model YL is designed with a longer wheelbase, offering improved interior space and a more practical third row. This has been one of the most common criticisms of the current Model Y, where the optional third-row seating is often considered too cramped for regular use. The Model YL addresses this with two captain’s chairs for the second row, giving the third row additional rear legroom and a more usable layout.
