Tesla doubles referral discounts and rewards

Tesla has announced a significant boost to its referral program incentives in Canada and the United States. The update doubles the discount for buyers and doubles the rewards for existing Tesla owners.

Now when a purchase is made with your referral link, buyers can get $2,600 off their new vehicle purchase in Canada, or $2,000 in the US. This is double from the previous $1,300 and $1,000 discounts in each respective country. The benefits have also doubled for the owner who shared their referral link – a successful purchase with your link will now earn you $1,300 in Tesla Credits in Canada, or $1,000 in the US.

These credits can be used in the Tesla ecosystem for anything from paying for Supercharging or Service bills, or even put towards a new car.

Here’s a breakdown of the changes:

  • For Buyers:
    • In Canada, buyers can now receive $2,600 off their purchase, up from the previous $1,300.
    • In the US, buyers will enjoy a $2,000 discount, double the previous $1,000 reward.
  • For Existing Owners:
    • Canadian referrers earn $1,300 in Tesla credits, which can be used toward products, services, or even Supercharging. This is a sharp increase from the previous $650.
    • US referrers now receive $1,000 in credits, up from $500.

Along with the financial rewards, successful referrers will also automatically be entered for a chance to receive an invitation to an upcoming Tesla event.

It is important to note the vehicles eligible for referral rewards vary slightly between Canada and the US:

  • Canada: Unfortunately, the incentives only apply to purchases of the Model S, Model X, and Model Y. As we prevously reported, the Model 3 was removed from the program in Canada last month.
  • United States: The program south of the border includes the Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and the Cybertruck.

As before, you are limited to earning 10 referrals, although if you reached your limit under the previous terms, your referral link has been unlocked for you to earn additional rewards.

Tesla’s decision to double referral rewards comes with just over a month to go in the year, and could help Tesla reach its ambitious Q4 delivery goals. Through the first three quarters of the year, Tesla has delivered 1,293,656 cars, but in its Q3 2024 shareholder deck, but projected growth in deliveries for the year.

This means Tesla is anticipating delivering over 515,000 cars in the final quarter, a figure that would be a quarterly record, and push annual deliveries to a new record. With this boost in referral awards, along with the other incentives currently being offered, like 0% financing, free FSD transfers, free Supercharging, and more, Tesla appears to be pulling out all the stops to achieve that goal.
