Tesla China’s July sales breakdown has been released, showing another strong month for exports while domestic sales fell sharply compared to June, although the drop is typical for the first month of a quarter.
According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released on Tuesday, Tesla delivered 27,249 vehicles in China in July, while 66,330 vehicles were exported. Combined, the two figures account for the 93,579 wholesale vehicles reported earlier this month, Tesla China’s highest monthly total of 2026.
Exports were easily the highlight. Giga Shanghai shipped 66,330 vehicles to other markets in July, up 143% from the 27,269 vehicles exported in July 2025. Exports accounted for about 71% of the factory’s wholesale volume during the month.
The comparatively low domestic sales figure isn’t necessarily unusual, however. Tesla prioritizes exports from Giga Shanghai during the first month of each quarter before shifting more production toward the Chinese market later in the quarter.
That pattern can be seen throughout 2026. Domestic retail sales came in at just 18,485 units in January and 25,956 in April, the first months of the first and second quarters. Sales then climbed significantly as each quarter progressed, reaching 52,920 units in June, according to data compiled by @Tslachan on X.
July’s domestic deliveries therefore fit Tesla’s established production and delivery cycle, even though the figure was still down about 33% compared with July 2025.
Through the first seven months of 2026, Giga Shanghai has now exported 295,324 vehicles, up more than 30% from 226,034 during the same period last year. Some of those exports were destined for Canada after the federal government lowered import tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs) earlier this year, allowing Tesla to lower Model 3 prices by up to $20,000.
