Rivian raises 2026 delivery outlook after beating Q2 expectations and launching R2

Rivian has delivered one of its stronger quarterly performances, posting second quarter delivery figures that comfortably exceeded both its own guidance and Wall Street expectations.

The company announced on Thursday that it delivered 12,194 vehicles during Q2 2026, while producing 12,613 vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois. The result came in well above Rivian’s previously issued guidance of between 9,000 and 11,000 deliveries for the quarter and ahead of analyst estimates around the 10,500 to 11,000 unit range.

With the strong results, Rivian has raised its full-year delivery forecast for 2026. The automaker now expects to deliver between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles this year, an increase from its previous guidance of 62,000 to 67,000 units.

According to the company, growth in deliveries was driven primarily by increasing demand for its commercial electric delivery vans (EDVs) and continued momentum from its flagship R1T pickup and R1S SUV lineup. However, perhaps the biggest milestone of the quarter was the beginning of customer deliveries for the long-awaited R2 SUV.

The R2 represents Rivian’s attempt to move beyond the premium end of the market and compete in the more affordable midsize SUV segment. The first customer deliveries began in June, with the launch edition priced at US$57,990. Additional variants are expected to arrive over the next 18 months, including a rear wheel drive configuration starting below US$50,000 and an eventual entry-level version targeted at roughly US$45,000.

The updated forecast suggests Rivian expects a significantly stronger second half of 2026. Even reaching the midpoint of its revised guidance would require the company to deliver roughly 45,000 additional vehicles over the final two quarters of the year – nearly double what it achieved in the first half, suggesting the company is expecting a rapid R2 production ramp.

Rivian is scheduled to report its full second quarter financial results after markets close on July 30.
