Porche’s latest concept car, the Mission X, is turning heads and could be a glimpse into what electric supercars could be in the next few years. The Mission X takes inspiration from a long line of Porsche vehicles, including the 918 Spyder, Carrera GT and 959.
Some of the features of the Mission X include:
- Lightweight glass dome with carbon fibre-reinforced plastic exoskeleton
- Le Mans-style doors
- Leather and carbon fibre seats
- Open-top steering wheel
- Staggered tires with 20-inch wheels in the front and 21-inch wheels in the back
- 900-volt architecture
It is unclear if Porsche plans to put the vehicle into production. However, Porsche did confirm that if it does, they intend to make it the fastest road-legal vehicle around the Nurburgring. The current fastest road-legal lap is held by the Mercedes-AMG One with a lap time of 6:35:18.
If the Porsche Mission X were able to beat the Mercedes-AMG One, it would make it the second-fastest EV on the Nurburgring. A purpose-built Volkswagen ID R holds the current electric vehicle record with a lap time of 6:05:336. While the fastest road-legal electric vehicle lap is via a Tesla Model S Plaid set earlier this week on June 2 with a lap time of 7:25:231.
