Lucid has selected AT&T as the exclusive connectivity partner for its EVs, as the latter announced at MWC Barcelona.
The internet connectivity will power features like telematics, diagnostics, audio streaming, and navigation in the Air sedan. Lucid said the navigation would help the electric vehicle maximize the driving range and minimize the need for charging stops. However, the Air is one of the most enduring EVs on the road, with more than 500 miles of driving range.
Lucid Motor’s SVP, Michael Bell, said, “the strength of AT&T’s network and IoT leadership in the connected car space are key reasons Lucid chose AT&T to connect our vehicles. The automotive industry is on the move, and together, Lucid and AT&T are creating new possibilities for drivers and vehicles.”
AT&T will now power over 60 auto brands, including GM (Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, GMC), Audi, Ford, and others. The internet works like a mobile hotspot.
Ninety-five percent of vehicles are expected to be connected by 2030. However, EV makers have more reasons to connect their cars as it helps to extend the driving range.
AT&T, on the other hand, will earn more revenue from partnerships with automakers.
The Lucid Air recently got less expensive when the company offered another $7,500 discount on some models.
