Lucid Air gets first drive by CEO Peter Rawlinson

Lucid Motors has released a new video today showing CEO Peter Rawlinson taking a release candidate build Lucid Air for a test drive.

The vehicle was built at the company’s recently completed AMP-1 facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. Manufacturing of a release candidate is done just before final production begins.

Rawlinson takes the EV out for a test drive in the California Bay Area with several cameras inside the car recording his reactions. As is to be expected from the CEO, he is quick to praise the performance and ride quality calling it “as much a sports car as it is a sedan.”

But he also showed the car is not quite ready for full production, commenting on a jitter in the torque that he says can be improved.

There has been some criticism of Lucid as of late. On the same day the company announced it was going public via a reverse merger, they also revealed deliveries of the Air were being delayed from the spring until the second half of 2021.

Seeing the CEO drive a release candidate vehicle should inspire investors, and also indicates the company is likely to meet their new delivery target later this year.
