Honeywell Aerospace has filed two new lawsuits against Rivian and Lucid, accusing the two electric vehicle manufacturers of infringing on its patents.
According to a report from Bloomberg Law, Honeywell alleges that Rivian is using seven patented technologies without permission. These cover safety monitoring, autonomous navigation, traffic display systems, sensor fusion, laser-based navigation, hazard detection, and software licensing management.
While the technologies were initially developed for aviation, Honeywell argues that its intellectual property also extends to applications in ground vehicles.
Honeywell is seeking financial compensation, an injunction, attorneys’ fees, and enhanced damages for what it alleges was willful infringement. The company has also requested a jury trial.
Lucid Faces Separate Lawsuit
Honeywell filed a second patent infringement lawsuit against Lucid, this one in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. (via E-V)
The Lucid complaint includes 21 exhibits, compared to 14 in the Rivian case. However, details about the specific patents allegedly involved in the Lucid lawsuit have not yet been reported and whether they involve overlapping technologies.
Both lawsuits were filed on September 18, 2026, less than three months after Honeywell Aerospace separated from Honeywell International to become an independent publicly traded company.
Neither Rivian nor Lucid had filed a response to the allegations as of Monday.
