Drag Times tests the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S in 0-60mph and ¼ mile performance

What do you do when you’re able to get your hands on a Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S? Well if you’re DragTimes, you hook up your Dragy and VBOX, and lay down some rubber to test the performance of these latest EV’s.

In the video, the more powerful (and more expensive) Turbo S is up first. Despite asking for the Porsche to be fully charged prior to testing, it was only at 56% state-of-charge (SOC) on the day of the test. After that he got behind the wheel of the Turbo model, which was sitting at 91% SOC for the test runs.

As you can see from the results, the cheaper and less powerful Turbo version actually performed better overall than its big brother Turbo S. It was notably quicker from 100-200km/h and 60-130mph, and clocked a speed 3mph faster than the Turbo S. In the racing world, a 3mph speed difference at the end of a ¼ mile is a huge difference.

While DragTimes didn’t test the Model S against the Taycan (yet), they did use some numbers from a previous run with the Tesla in very similar conditions. The Model S was quicker off the line, and also faster at almost the same speed in the ¼ mile as the Turbo S.

Much of what Porsche has said about the Taycan is that battery SOC doesn’t impact performance, and you’ll get the same performance at 100% as compared to 50%. What this test shows is that might not be true, and that despite Porsche’s claim, performance is indeed affected by SOC.

Either way, the Taycan looks to be a serious performer on the track, and if nothing else, will push Tesla to be better and faster in the future. And that’s why competition is such a great thing.
