Deadline extended to August 31 for Ford owners to reserve their free NACS adaptor

Ford owners have until August 31 to secure their complimentary NACS charging adaptor, as the automaker has extended the reservation deadline yet again.

Initially, Ford set a June 30 date for reservations to wrap up, but the website was edited and updated with a new August 31 date. Some owners that got on the list earlier this year have already received their adaptors. However, deliveries have slowed over the late Spring and into the Summer.

According to Forbes, the delay was caused by Tesla’s disbanding of its Supercharger team, which disrupted Ford’s plans. Ford is not alone in dealing with adaptor delays, as Volvo, Rivian, and other automakers are awaiting NACS adaptors for their owners and have faced similar issues.

The move to provide free adapters comes as Ford is one of the many automakers to switch to NACS for it’s future line-up. The issue is that the clients who were early adopters will need the adapter to access the same charging network as those buying EVs in 2026 and beyond.

If a Ford owner misses the reservation window, they can purchase an adaptor for $230. There are also other third-party adaptors available, but they are prohibited at Supercharging locations.

Ford owners will need to log in to their Ford account to get on the reservation list. You can find more information about the adaptors and a link to get on the reservation list at https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos/electric-vehicles/public-charging/how-do-i-get-a-fast-charging-adapter-nacs/.
