BC Hydro has hit yet another major milestone as the hydro-electric company celebrated eclipsing 900 public EV charging ports across the province of BC.
The company hit number 900 when it announced the opening of the Britton Creek Rest Area charging stations. The rest area on the Coquihalla Highway will now feature two 400 kW chargers and two 350 kW chargers for public use.
The 400KW chargers are able to charge two vehicles at 200KW at once, which means up to eight EVs can charge simultaneously. The chargers also come equipped with CCS, NACS and CHAdeMO connectors to handle almost any EV on the road.
BC Hydro President Charlotte Mitha had this to say about this specific hub:
As more people make the switch to electric vehicles, we’re focused on delivering charging infrastructure that’s fast, reliable and ready when people need it – especially during busy travel periods like the summer. Expanding this key location on the Coquihalla Highway gives EV drivers greater confidence for their road trip, knowing dependable charging infrastructure is in place when they need it.
This is the first charging station on the Coq itself, and drivers on one of BC’s most popular highways will now have the option to charge up in Merritt, Hope or at the summit at Britton Creek.
