Tesla Model Y named as top SUV in 2021 AAA Car Guide

The Tesla Model Y is quickly accumulating awards and accolades after being on the market for just one year. The latest to add to the list is from the American Automobile Association (AAA), which has named it as the top SUV in its 2021 Car Guide.

With a focus on safety and advanced driver-assistant systems (ADAS) in this year’s guide, AAA the Model Y scored 92 out of 130 points. That was enough to beat out other contenders for the title like the Jaguar I-Pace (87 points), Volvo S90 T8 (87 points), and Chevy Bolt EV (86 points).

In awarding the prize to the Model Y, AAA said the electric SUV has smooth, quick acceleration, excellent handling, and good range.

It did have some criticisms too, with its weak points being build quality, harsh ride quality, and an infotainment system which they say can be distracting.

The Model Y is quickly becoming a popular car among buyers. The electric SUV has outsold the Model 3 in California two quarters in a row. CEO Elon Musk believes it will become so popular that he says it will be the best-selling car of any kind in the world within the next few years.
