Tesla Model S reservation holders in Canada get new September delivery dates as some US deliveries get pushed back into 2022

When Tesla first announced the refresh Model S in January, CEO Elon Musk was hoping to begin deliveries just one month later in February. The company’s website disagreed with the CEO, indicating deliveries would instead begin in March.

As we all now know, neither date was correct and significant delays pushed the first deliveries all the way into June. Since then several thousand Plaid and Long Range (LR) Model S vehicles have been delivered in the US, but the pace of deliveries has slowed and we are still waiting for the first delivery in Canada.

Today Tesla has been updating the accounts of Model S reservation holders in both Canada and the US with new estimated delivery dates, and depending on which side of the border you are on you might not be happy with the message.

Canadian Model S Deliveries

It looks like Canada is still on track to receive the first Model S deliveries in either August or September. A Drive Tesla reader in Ontario received an updated delivery date this morning and is now expecting to receive his LR Model S between September 4 and September 24. Prior to this update he tells us he had no estimated delivery date at all, and that he ordered his car on January 1, 2021.

We have previously heard from Plaid reservation holders that they were seeing August delivery dates, but have not been able to confirm any changes today by the time of publication.

US Model S Deliveries

If you live south of the border, the story is quite different. The Kilowatts also have a reservation for a LR Model S, and until today had a delivery timeline of sometime in August. This morning that was updated to between October 31 and November 20.

That appears to be among the more positive updates. According to Tesla enthusiast @SawyerMerritt, many other US reservation holders have seen their delivery dates pushed as far into the future as early 2022.

Tesla did not provide a reason for the extended delay, but did apologize and say that it is the “most accurate” and “best estimate” they can provide at this time. Based on previous comments from CEO Elon Musk and statements in the company’s Q2 2021 earnings report, they are likely facing supply chain issues which continues to hamper production.

If you have a Model S reservation in Canada or the US, let us know in the comments below if you have also received a new delivery date, or email us at tips@driveteslacanada.ca.
